The doctors bag

Having a child or children at the doctors is stressful. This is super helpful.

The doctors bag: an inside view!

The doctors bag is something i've created in my home for my special needs children. Have you ever been at a doctors office and there are either no toys or toys that dont look very safe for kids? As in germs? I never liked that feeling especially knowing that a majority of people going to the doctors are sick. Therefore they are spreading everything to those toys and now your children are infected and will most likely bring that home with them. Not a good feeling when you are trying to stay out of hospitals. Unfortunately for me we have to go to several appointments a week because we want to make sure my little girl is not going to shut down on us. Or my son having a moment where his autism takes over and there's no chance for us. Doctors are good at keeping toys on hand but always have supplies handy! Keep scrolling and I will show you the inside of our personal doctors bag and recommend places to get your own supplies!

Keep your child's intrerest in mind!

Always keep your child's interest in mind. What is something they like? Maybe it is an action toy of some sort, drawing, video games, cards, etc. You get the idea right? Awesome! One problem I had was finding items that are different from the items that we have at home, yet, still give that OOOOOOO, AHHHHHHH, EEEEEEEEE, effect. So, I talked with doctors and the therapist compiled a list and wala! Of course one of the burdens of some of the products I have is that the child may break them or pop a hole in them. Broken or not you can still create an amazing experience and keep them from losing their cool too.

Items to put in your bag,

Below is a list of items that I personally keep on hand. Remember it has to be items that you don't typically use in the home and that they don't play with unless you are out. This doesn't have to be just for a doctor's appointment.

  • Bubbles
  • Chew tubes
  • Sensory Balls
  • Coloring books
  • Sticker books
  • Reading books for older kids
  • Sanitizing wipes

Keep them safe, yet have fun to!

Keeping other kids away from your doctor's bag? Hmm, I have a hard time with this one too. Always keep extra supplies that can be given away. This isn't always something everyone can afford and you really shouldn't feel pressured to do this. Just an idea. The doctor's bags are a very big hit in my household.
